Greetings members of the Classic Yacht Association!
Are you dreaming of the warm Hawaiian breezes and beautiful scenery? Well procrastinate no more – if you have not yet signed up for our Honolulu Change of Watch Event NOW IS THE TIME. The dates are January 13-16, and since we are having events on Thursday, January 13 it will be best to arrive on January 12th (Wednesday). Do not delay! We have a deadline of December 12 with the hotel room block. If we don’t have the requisite 25 rooms booked by December 11, we will have to give up the rest of the room block, and you might pay more for your hotel room.
We need drivers for the 15 passenger vans that we have rented. If you can do this (please!!) contact USA Fleet representative Ted Crosby at firstname.lastname@example.org. You need to include a photocopy of your driver’s license.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12 – Most people will arrive that day and/or evening. Nothing scheduled. However, there is much to do and explore. Perhaps head over to the Ala Moana Shopping Center, www.alamoanacenter.com, a large and beautiful open air shopping center and pick up some Hawaiian apparel for the weekend. Or head to the beautiful Signature Prime Steak and Seafood restaurant to enjoy a glass of wine or appetizers or dinner. The hotel pool is a wonderful spot as well. Look for your CYA friends as we all arrive. It is going to be a great weekend.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 13TH – Pearl Harbor Day. We have 15 people attending this event. Here are the details:
Meet at the hotel lobby at 8:15 AM SHARP for transport in our two rented vans. Don’t be late – the vans are leaving by 8:30 at the very latest. This is going to be a long day with lots to see and you have to make a selection here so read up! Be sure to bring your mask and proof of vaccine!
We will arrive at the Pearl Harbor Visitors Center at 9AM. We will gather at the USS Missouri checkpoint. There is a free shuttle every 15 minutes. Do you want to visit the USS Missouri in the morning or the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum? There is no civilian traffic allowed on the island. BUY YOUR TICKETS AHEAD ON LINE AT www.ussmissouri.org or www.pearlharboraviationmuseum.org. You have to pick one. Tickets MUST be purchased in advance but are not time stamped so you can enter when we arrive.
Return by shuttle to the parking lot not later than 11:20 as we have an 11:30 group lunch reservation at Restaurant 604 which overlooks the harbor and over to Ford Island. NOTE – THEY WILL NOT SEAT US UNTIL OUR PARTY OF 15 IS ALL PRESENT. SO, IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND AND DON’T WANT TO COME TO LUNCH PLEASE NOTIFY DIANE LANDER VIA TEXT AT 206-919-5099.
14:00 – Tour of the USS Arizona Memorial. With considerable effort, I was able to secure tickets for us at this time. The restaurant says it will take a long time to serve our large group; and there is lots to see near the dock before we go on the boat. Note the dock has been out of order for awhile due to a storm, it just opened, and I procured tickets the first day it opened.
16:30 – Return to the hotel. Meet at the vans by 16:30 at the latest. If you are lost or delayed contact Diane Lander at 206-919-5099 via text so we don’t leave you behind.
19:30 – Dinner on your own. Many are going to make reservations at the hotel restaurant – Signature Prime Steak and Seafood. Beautiful views and highly recommended. Call 808-949-3636 for reservations. Hours are 4:30-10 PM nightly.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 14
10:00 AM – Gather in hotel lobby for 10:15 SHARP departure to the Iolani Palace Tour. Our tickets are for 11 AM. Audio tour of the palace and museum in the basement. Return to hotel by 1 PM. Lunch on your own. Afternoon, walking, shopping, or beach time.
4:15 PM – Gather in hotel lobby for the trip to the beautiful Honolulu Elks Club for the Welcome Reception. The food is hosted by the USA Fleet and the CYA, bring cash to purchase scrip for drinks. Non-alcoholic beverages are $5.00 and alcoholic beverages are $10.00. Exact change appreciated. Enjoy hosted Hawaiian Pupus and a gorgeous view of the water. The reception will start at 5 PM. First van back to hotel will be at 7 PM – second van will be at 8 PM. Meet near the entrance of the Elks for van transportation back to hotel.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 15:
7:00 AM – Leave hotel to walk to Waikiki Yacht Club, just .2 of a mile, to the yacht club at 1599 Ala Moana Blvd. See Google maps for an easy route you can follow on your phone. The Continental Breakfast is at 7:30 AM at Waikiki Yacht Club, the meetings start at 8 AM in the tented area in the yacht club. Be sure that you have downloaded any documents that you may wish to have available from the CYA website at https://cya.wildapricot.org/COW2022.
Immediately following the meetings, we will be leaving for the boat cruise aboard the Vida Mia which will be at the WYC to pick us up. I would suggest bringing your bathing suit, etc and anything else that you might need aboard the boat so you don’t have to walk back to the hotel to get anything which might delay the boat departure. Note – Brynn Rovito, new CYA member and owner of the Vida Mia has most graciously agreed to take us out for a “swim cruise” on her yacht and provide us all with lunch on a complimentary basis. Be sure to meet her and thank her. In exchange, I have agreed that all of us will generously support her on board bar. She has a liquor license too!
15:30 Return to WYC aboard the boat.
17:00 – Gather for cocktails and beverages at the WYC. Change of Watch dinner will start at 18:00 followed by the Change of Watch ceremony, and the keynote speaker, Brynn Rovito, speaking on the restoration of the Vida Mia and her interest in supporting the CYA.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 16:
8:30 AM – Continental Breakfast at WYC.
9:00 AM - Day 2 of our Annual Meeting. The agenda is scheduled to end around noon but could go longer.
